Remodel Pools and Backyard Spaces

There is an ideal process when remodeling your swimming pool. Things can get out of order. Ideally the pool is remodeled all at once. In most cases initially the coping and tile are replaced along with any water feature repairs or remodeling. While this work is being done so are equipment pad repairs or replacements. Lights can often be upgraded to low voltage LED’s at this point. Old systems can be set up to have App centered automation and freeze protection. Like most things with pools there are a lot of options.

This is also a good time to add an autofill. Dragging a hose to your pool every couple of days is ridiculous. It’s shocking to me how many pool builders are still building brand new pools today with no autofill. It should be standard practice.

Once coping, tile, lights, and equipment repairs are complete the pool is ready for plaster. Plaster has different processes depending on the situation. Some pools can get partial chip out with bond coat then plaster. For this the existing plaster needs to be bonded well to the gunite. When the plaster is not bonded well and delaminating too much full chip out is required. The price difference between the pool depends on the pool size but is somewhere around $1000. I personally prefer the bond coat version because it is cheaper, and it is a semi waterproof material that can provide extra protection to the new plaster. The important part is that the plaster is installed in a manner that validates the 7-year warranty.
